Another week, another frenzy of activity...
We got our first 18.01A tests back this week (calculus, for those who don't speak entirely in numbers) and I did quite well, so I'm pleased about that. The week other than that was rather uneventful... my birthday was fairly quiet, because I had two problem sets due the next day, but I did get to watch Die Hard 2 until the wee hours of the morning. Also, I have now officially purchased cigarettes on the behalf of hall members using my new and improved ID powers! All entirely legal, of course--they're over the age of 18, just too lazy to walk to the store. But it did give me a feeling of power. Yay for being a legal adult!
The tournament this weekend was for novices only, and it didn't go fantastically well. I went with Sydney, an individual also living on 5th East, who has never debated before but will be quite good with a little bit of experience. We went 2-2, although we should have won another one of the rounds. The top 8 teams broke to quarterfinals; the 9th, 10th, and 11th place teams were other MIT novices. All in all, we were well-represented, but not a dramatic victory for the home team.
The guild game was also fun. I dyed my hair pink and dressed in a punk outfit for my part, which was enjoyable--I invested in a spiky leather bracelet and everything. But I died about an hour into game, because I made the mistake of thinking that a person who wanted to kill me wouldn't be stupid enough to spend several minutes searching for a weapon in my presence. I was wrong. Lesson of the day: No threat is too obvious to be real. All in all, though, the game was still fun; I got to "ghost" the rest of it, which means hanging out in a white headband which signifies that you're invisible and not there. Watching a game isn't quite as fun as playing, but still enjoyable.
Now, though, I have to write the 7-page essay for my Shakespeare class that I haven't had time to start yet.
